SURBITON HIGH SCHOOL AN EVENING IN ATHENS  WEST FRIEZE PARTHENON

Paul Lang went to see these restored casts in their new location at Surbiton High School.
They now look amazing.
Last year they had a fund raising evening to have the casts cleaned. One of them in particular has better detail than the one in the British Museum.
History of the casts: they were donated to the school in 1914 by the family of the late Venerable Archdeacon Charles Burney, a key member of the Church Schools’ Company, and founder of the school.  The casts were produced by the Brucciani Company, a leading cast making firm.
They had an inaugural classics  lecture by Professor Edith Hall on the Elgin Marbles,and another speaker talked about the West Frieze and their impact as works of art.
As the frieze was before cleaning:
